Class Notes: August 2019
Stanley J. Goldsmith, MD’ 62 is now retired. He served as Professor of Radiology and Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine since 1995. He has also received the title Professor Emeritus of Radiology (and retains the Director Emeritus of Nuclear Medicine & Molecular Imaging title). Dr. Goldsmith received an Honorary Doctor of Science from SUNY Downstate in 2018 and will receive another honorary Doctorate from the University of Novi Sad in October 2019.
Allen I. Goldberg, MD’ 68 “With gratitude for my financial support when I was at Downstate. In memory of my father Capt. Sanford Goldberg NYFD EC282 who spent many hours at Kings County with smoke inhalation and also at Maimonides.”
Allison B. Reiss, MD’ 83 and her team at NYU Winthrop were awarded $100,000 from the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America for a research project aimed at developing new treatments. Take a look at the articles covering the award below.

Arthur Rifkin, MD’ 61 Rifkin-Arthur Edward, MD, 82, of Great Neck, NY has passed away. Dr. Rifkin was an influential academic psychiatrist and researcher, with over 150 citations in the medical literature, including over 50 clinical trials, many representing seminal research in psychopharmacology. In addition, Dr. Rifkin was a well-regarded clinician, and a clinical and research mentor to hundreds of psychiatrists, including many former psychiatric residents who are now leaders in the field across the country.
