Downstate Presidential Search Update, Dr. Michael Lucchesi Named Interim Head
From Nancy L. Zimpher, Chancellor State University of New York
We are pleased to announce that after much input from numerous Downstate stakeholders both internal and external, we have identified an individual who will take the helm and ensure a smooth transition for the campus while the official committee searches for new presidential leadership.
Dr. Michael Lucchesi, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, has recently been named as the Officer-In-Charge.
As many of you know, Dr. Lucchesi has a long and distinguished history with SUNY Downstate from his internship and residency in Internal Medicine as a medical student, to several impressive positions leading up to his current role, including Instructor of Emergency Medicine, Assistant Professor and Residency Program Director and Clinical Assistant Dean of the College of Medicine.
We are confident that Dr. Lucchesi is the right leader to successfully take SUNY Downstate through this challenging time and develop a solid base from which the new president can build a vision.
Thank you for all your efforts in support of this great institution and we look forward to working with everyone to move SUNY Downstate forward to a bright future.

Presidential Search Update, 7/16 The search committee has come together twice in the past four months. The first time was to receive its official charge from the chancellor and the second time was to meet with the search firm Issacson Miller who was granted the search contract and discuss the job description and qualifications for the official job posting.
At this juncture, the process is moving forward and the next steps over the summer will be to begin to review the candidate pool that is being developed right now through recruitment, recommendations and applications.
