March 26, 2018: SUNY Downstate Medical Center (Downstate) launched a novel initiative to improve hand hygiene with the new state-of-the art BioVigil system to increase compliance by Downstate staff on proper hand hygiene to prevent the spread and transmission of infections.
March 23: Downstate hosted a Health Disparities and People Living with Disabilities Conference.
April 11, 2018: The School of Graduate Studies (SGS) organized and hosted it’s Annual Research Day.
National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health (NPWH) appointed Beth Steinfeld, DNP, WHNP-BC, Assistant Professor and Program Director of the Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner program at Downstate, to their Board of Directors for the North Atlantic Region. Since 1980.
James Cottrell, MD, Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology, retired at the end of March following a long and successful career at Downstate.
As part of National Public Health Week, the School of Public Health (SPH) Student Council invited Ericka Huggins, educator, human rights activist, and poet, to speak on Thursday. Her address entitled, “We Are the Ones We Are Waiting For”, touched upon ways to move beyond historical trauma to heal society, as well as the importance of sustaining activism and promoting change.
Boston Therapeutics Engages Medical and FDA Experts: Launching New Strategic Initiatives. Downstate Alumnus and current Chairman of the College of Medicine Alumni Association Board of Trustees, has been appointed to the Board of Boston Therapeutics. The company is an innovator in the design, development, and commercialization of novel treatments for diabetes and its related complications.
