August 17th: SUNY Downstate President Wayne J. Riley, M.D., MPH, MBA, MACP, appointed Dr. Michael Lucchesi, Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine, to serve as Interim Dean of the College of Medicine for the 2018/2019 academic year after Dr. Carlos N. Pato’s departure.
August 31st: Robert Poston, MD, FACS was recently appointed Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
Dr. Seth Langley, Ph.D. was appointed as Assitant Vice President of the newly renamed Office of Academic Development (now the Office of Academic Support Services and Advisement).
August: Students of the REACH (Research Experience in Autism for College and High School) program graduated. This summer intensive program, co-directed by Alumni Association Board Member Jenny Libien, MD, allows students to study the brain and ASD through research and personalized education.
September 6th: President Wayne J. Riley, M.D., MPH, MBA, MACP, was featured in “Governor Cuomo Announces $5 Million Investment to Help Victims of Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence”. New York State Office of Victim Services will partner with SUNY to Expand the “SUNY’s Got Your Back” Comfort Bag Program, which will allow the distribution of 225,000 comfort bags.
SUNY Downstate Medical Center is featured in “Make a BOLD Move: Improve Care For People with Alzheimer’s”. It was listed as one of three Alzheimer’s Centers of Excellence in New York City.
